Abstract

Lead-zinc ore deposits associated with salt halokinesis (salt tectonics) and evaporite diapirism are well known and have been exploited for many years in North Africa and the Gulf of Mexico of the US. They form a distinct group within the Mississippi Valley-type (MVT) deposits, with typically low to high tonnage and modest to high grade (Leach et al. 2005). North Tunisia and the adjacent Algeria region host numerous Pb-Zn (±Ba-F) deposits located at the edges of Triassic salt-bearing diapirs. These deposits were exhaustively investigated and explored during the last eight decades, but important metallogenic aspects remain a subject of debate. The seminar will explain the characteristics of these deposits with special atention on two of them: Bou Grine and Fedj el Adoum.
