Abstract

The RawMatCop 2018-2020 Programme is a three-year action funded by the European Commission/DG GROW as a the result of the call Copernicus Building Skills Actions. RawMATCop aims to develop skills, expertise and applications at the intersection between Copernicus/Earth Observation data and services for industries in the materials sector.

Raw materials, especially critical raw materials (CRM), are essential to fuel an increasingly technology-based economy. The supply of raw material must be safe and sustainable, and must fit into a circular economic system. Following these premises, there are currenly 5 RawMatCop postdoctoral projects, to study applications of remote sensing techniques to the raw material exploration, extraction and rehabilitation. In this seminar we will present briefly, 5 minutes each, the RawMatCop and the 5 projects:

  • RawMatCop Programme, by Nathan Hard, EIT RawMaterials
  • Geospatial mining transparency through Copernicus and MapX (CopX), by Elsy Ibrahim, University of Liege, Belgium.
  • Integration of space-borne remote sensing data with geophysical and geological data for exploration of IOCG mineralizations, by Thorkild M. Rasmussen, Luleå University of Technology, Sweden.
  • Sampling optimization in stockpiles/tailings, for grade mapping of raw materials using geostatistical analysis and Earth Observation data, by Sara Kasmaeeyazdi, University of Bologna, Italy.
  • CoCoMo – Copernicus for Contamination Monitoring and Decision Support in Active Mining and Rehabilitation, Christian Köhler, TU Bergakademie Freiberg, Institute for Mine Surveying and Geodesy, Germany.
  • InTarsis, a ground monitoring system combining Sentinel-1 and seismic observations, by Ignacio Marzan, ICTJA-CSIC, Spanish Research Council.
