Research Interests

I do research on the physical properties of crystals at macroscopic and microscopic level using optical spectroscopy techniques, mainly Raman scattering and photoluminescence. The study of the lattice vibrational modes by means of Raman scattering yields a wealth of information about the crystal properties as these modes are highly sensitive to the atomic bonding. I have extensively used Raman scattering to study lattice disorder, crystalline phases, strain, local impurity modes, and the impact of impurities on physical properties of synthetic crystals such as electrical conductivity. I have developed modeling tools to determine in a contactless way the electrical charge from Raman experiments. My current research interests comprise furthering the applications of Raman scattering to characterize novel bulk or nanostructured crystals and to advance in the understanding of the observed Raman scattering processes by using detailed physical models.
