Barcelona, 15/07/2024.The ground shook in Madrid and Barcelona with the goals scored by the Spanish National Football Team in the 2024 Eurocup. This is shown by the data processed by the seismologist from Geociencias Barcelona (GEO3BCN-CSIC), Jordi Díaz. The vibrations were recorded by seismometers from the National Geographic Institute (IGN) and the Cartographic and Geological Institute of Catalonia (ICGC), respectively.

In the 47th minute, Nico Williams scored Spain’s first goal, and the crowds gathered in Plaza Cataluña (Barcelona) and Plaza Colón (Madrid) made both cities tremble. The same happened with the tiebreaker goal scored by Mikel Oyarzabal in the 86th minute, which was also felt in the same locations. The seismometers also captured the final celebration of the match, as well as the arrival of people at the beginning of the event.

The IGN seismometer located at the Royal Observatory of Madrid is situated less than 2 km from Plaza Colón, while the ICGC seismometer is located in Portal del Àngel, 400 meters from Plaza Cataluña.
