Chemical stabilizationof natural Jordanian geomaterials for construction applications

Abstract

The research has concentrated on developing building products (geopolymers) through geopolymerization as low cost construction materials for green housing. Geopolymerization refers to transferring the
naturally occurring aluminosilicates, at low temperatures and in short timing, into three-dimensional tectosilicates. A three-step process of dissolution, reorientation, and polycondensation involved in geopolymerization reaction is proposed and discussed until now. The produced construction materials are characterized by high strength, low energy consumption, low CO2 emission, and heat resistance. Results confirmed that natural Jordanian raw materials satisfy the criteria to be used as precursors of inexpensive, stable construction materials with high quality.
