Multi & Inter-disciplinary geophysics: Aiding basic and applied research in Earth sciences

Research carried out at GEO3BCN pursues to increase in knowledge in Earth system sciences and contribute to society’s action plans focusing on fulfilling its current and future needs (i.e. assessment and mitigation of the geological risks and sustainable use of the natural and energy resources).

Aiming to deepen into the understanding of the Earth system requires a holistic approach integrating all its components (the Atmosphere, the Geosphere, including the Hydrosphere, and the Biosphere). The dynamics and interaction of its processes have direct impacts on our society. Therefore, the scientific research must provide effective answers of how the Earth works, how we can manage the geological risks and how we can take advantage of the natural resources in a sustainable way. These are world-wide common scientific interests/objectives encourages broad knowledge exchange and discussions among international groups to determine possible synergies, develop communication channels and, establish or strengthen collaborations.
