Industry, policy makers and academic perspectives to EO in the Raw Materials sector. Forum discussions around the potential of Copernicus data for the Raw Materials sector

The RawMatCop User Forum is organised within the context of the RawMatCop Programme and will be a platform for discussion, networking and exchanging experience on the use of Earth Observation and Copernicus data and services in the raw materials sector.

The day will start with three keynote speeches from representatives from academia, industry and policy. These speakers will set the scene and introduce industrial/end-user experiences and opportunities but also the policy context and priorities of Earth Observation within the context of raw materials. The speakers will also highlight the main technological, policy and economic challenges preventing the wide-spread uptake of Earth Observation data in raw materials industries and propose how these challenges may be addressed.

EIT RawMaterials will introduce the RawMatCop Programme, illustrating how it has contributed to the Earth Observation policy actions through 13 industrial case-study driven post-doctoral research projects and the RawMatCop Academy capacity building programme.

In the afternoon the RawMatCop User Forum participants will have a choice to select one break-out session workshop, facilitated by the RawMatCop post-doctoral researchers, in which challenges, opportunities and needs of Earth Observation applications in raw materials industries will be interactively discussed. Participants will be able to choose from the following break-out session topics:

• Ground deformation
• Tailings & waste management
• Targeting & monitoring.

The main outcomes, recommendations and future outlook discussed in the break-out sessions will then be summarised and presented to all participants in a final plenary session.
