Abstract
Ground motion is one of the main hazards facing the mining sector. Due to social pressure and in their own interest, mining companies are obliged to strictly control the stability of their facilities, especially with regard to tailings-dams and open pits. To improve the monitoring capacity, the ground-based instrumentation can be completed with satellite data for devising a more robust and safe monitoring system. Unfortunately, this monitoring integration is not the norm. Fortunately, this is changing rapidly thanks to, among others, the launching of the Sentinel-1 satellite (2014-15) that has rocked the InSAR world with its great features and its wide range of applications, even on an engineering scale. Another barrier that remains to normalize the use of Sentinel-1 data in the mining sector is the complex and heavy processing, which comes to require the use of powerful servers. Our project aims to break this barrier through an algorithm that automatically processes each new Sentinel-1 acquisition down to a user level. Our project partner is Aminer and the case studies are the Riotinto, Aznalcollar, Tharsis, and La Zarza mines, located in the Pyrite Belt.
