Abstract
The recent strong earthquakes occurred in Central Italy showed how normal faults considered “silent” are able to generate destructive seismic events. The seismic hazard assessment of a region is generally evaluated using different disciplines, and among these, the paleoseismic research represents one of the most used and effective. The Ground Penetration Radar (GPR) technique, due to a metric scale of survey and its high-resolution capability, represents a complementary tool to guide the trenches excavation and extend the geological observations across a wider area. In this seminar you will be introduced to the identification of peculiar faulting signature on 2D/3D GPR data, with some examples of GPR Quaternary faults detection in the Italian Apennines.
