Postdoctoral position in seismic ambient noise imaging and monitoring of shallow structures

We are seeking an experienced and motivated seismologist to work with us in our Seismic Ambient Noise Imaging and Monitoring of Shallow Structures (SANIMS) project, financed by the Spanish Ministry of Science, Research and Innovation. Within SANIMS, we are analyzing the applicability of ambient noise methods in zones with different degree of anthropogenic sources. For this purpose, two seismic networks have been installed since late 2019: one within the city of Barcelona (20 short period stations) and one in the Cerdanya Basin (25 broadband sensors, eastern Pyrenees). The deployment of an additional network of high-resolution seismic nodes is planned for spring 2021.

Key duties

  • To use the available data to either characterize the shallow structure of the Cerdanya Basin or Barcelona city.
  • To employ ambient noise tomography, Rayleigh wave ellipticity inversions, receiver functions or noise/coda autocorrelation methods to image the studied areas.Nevertheless, other strategies are welcomed as long as the objectives of the project are being fulfilled.
  • To generate innovative research and to publish her/his results in leading journals
