Abstract

This presentation is focused in showing in only forty minutes a general and integrated review of the processes, including deformation, magmatism and foreland basin development, that accompanied the growth of the Cretaceous-Paleogene Mexican orogen. This tectonic element is with no doubt the largest and one of the most important geological features in the Mexican geology, since it is in a big part responsible of the Mexican continent formation, as we know it nowadays. Particular features of this orogenic belt are listed and contrasted with those of the Laramide and Sevier orogens in the SW of the United States of America. Finally, a geodynamic scenario where this belt was developed is also presented.
